Dear Teachers, Directors of Religious Education and Confirmation Coordinators,

We would like to extend an opportunity to introduce your middle school and high school age students to the Church’s pro-life and social justice mission at the 12th annual Walk for Life West Coast. This is a matchless opportunity for them to be part of building what St. Pope John Paul II called the “Culture of Life” right here in San Francisco.

You and your students can join Catholic bishops, tens of thousands of fellow young Catholics, as well as many thousands of people of other religions, or of no religion at all, united in standing for the least among us in one of the most important social issues of our time. Please consider coming as a school community, with a banner, and please consider the opportunity of offering them service hours for their participation.

The Walk for Life West Coast, one of the two largest pro-life events in the country, is now in its fourteenth year. Since its inception the Walk has been defined by the presence of countless young people who have marked the Walk with its characteristic sense of joy, faith and hope for the future.

On Saturday, January 27, 2018, we invite you to help your Religious Education students to become part of that future! The Walk begins at 12:30 PM at San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza. The Walk leaves the plaza at 1:30 and proceeds down Market Street, ending near the Ferry Building. The Walk is approximately two miles long and takes less than an hour to complete. Our website has many beautiful photographs, videos and testimonials of past Walks which you might like to view.

Many of our local young people come and keep on coming back each year to witness for life. They have become the “Good Samaritans” of our modern age as Pope Francis has recently described them. Please consider bringing your students this year. They will get the chance to see so many people their own age in defense of the unborn and in solidarity with women in need.

We invite all students to participate in carrying the front banner during the Walk for Life.
